Obama elected president of the United States of America

アメリカ　おめでとうございます!

After a two year long and tedious election campaign, the impossible has happened. An African American has been elected president over the United States of America. Personally, I couldn’t care less about any head of state’s ethnicity. But in this case, even for a Swede like me, it feels like a victory. More importantly, however, Americans have taken the important step of saying NO to four more years of destructive incompetence (in the form of a very fertile Alaskan hockey mom with fundamentalist tendencies).
You have chosen a person that highlights that there is in fact a problem with social and economical inequality in America (Shut… Up… Are you serious?), you have chosen a person that wish to remedy America’s diplomatic blunders and instead of renaming fast food dishes when someone speaks out against your imperialistic tendencies, prefers to sit and talk with them (is that even possible?)
Even though you might have chosen the lesser of two evils, you are still burdened with the fact that two very right-winged and interventional (and sometimes even jingoistic) parties maintain their dominance over the world’s strongest armed forces. I would also like to show my prognosis of the next four years in the greatest country on our green polluted earth.
You will still be responsible for the great majority of the world’s carbon dioxide emission. Americans belonging to the poor strata will still be able to run for the “best third-world look-alike” contest. Single moms will still need three to four jobs in order to pay for their daily meals. There will still be people (mostly blacks) living in trailer-parks in New Orleans. There will still be Americans without any health-care insurance. The great majority of America’s resources will be held by the top 3% of the population and you will still have the most shocking murder and violence rate in the entire world! Also, most disturbingly, America will still distribute more Japanese animation than any other country in the world. But still, if I were an American, even though I’m an avid anime fan, I would still emigrate to Canada. But that’s just me. Maybe I’m just spoiled with free health-care, subsidized dental care, high-cost protection on medical drugs, free compulsory school as well as free university education, gun control and guaranteed pension after retirement. However, I’d like to see it as a reward for my work to society. Maybe “Ask not what your country can do for you. Ask what you can do for your country” isn’t that good a quote. Maybe the other way around is what actually makes sense. But that’s just me.
